How is Ability Technology structured?
Ability Technology Limited is a company limited by guarantee. It is a not-for-profit, tax exempt charity.

How long has Ability been operating?
Ability's work began in 1990 through Dr Graeme Smith. Ability Corporation Pty Limited was formed in June 1991 to conduct the work of Ability. In May 2000 the staff, resources and business of Ability Corporation Pty Limited were transferred to a new company, Ability Technology Limited.

What people are involved in Ability's work?
Ability has an active Board of Directors, including specialists in management consultancy, computer technology and marketing.
Dr Graeme Smith, the founder of Ability, is the Executive Director.
Other staff have skills in occupational therapy, research, education, technical work and administration. They work as an effective team.

Do Ability staff travel to do their assessment and training work, or do people have to come to Ability?
Our preference is always to visit our clients at their home, school or workplace. We feel we can do our work better 'on site'. People are more comfortable and relaxed. It is easier to build rapport.

Is Ability government-funded for its work?
Ability has received Government funding for some of its projects, such as research projects. But Ability itself is not Government-funded. We have not sought such funding for a number of reasons, including an aversion to paperwork! Technology changes rapidly, and we have always cherished the freedom to make decisions quickly and with a minimum fuss. So Ability is a self-funding organisation that generates its own income. We believe that the need to attune our services to the needs of our customers (or else we go out of business!) is a very effective method of quality control - far more effective than endless forms and paper policies.

Where are Ability's services available?
Ability is located in Sydney and is able to provide service to people who live in Sydney, regional NSW and Interstate.

How can I support Ability's work?
Donations are welcome. All donations go into a special gift fund, used to subsidise equipment and services for those who cannot afford to pay for them.
Corporate Partners are also welcome. These can take the form of a corporation funding a specific project, in return for publicity benefits.
